Everyone wishes to flash their whitest smile and below are a few of the best natural teeth whitening agents to help you achieve that sparkling smile.
- Olive Oil – Rub it on the teeth with a rough cloth for a 2-3 minutes everyday before the morning brushing.
- Baking Soda – Rubbing a pinch of baking soda on teeth with a brush and leaving it for 2 minutes on alternate nights till teeth achieve the desired whiteness is an easy and fast alternative. Rinse the mouth well after applying it. Avoid it touching your gums, inner cheek. It may be combined with a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. They act as whiteners plus antibacterial agents.
- Raw vegetables – Consume raw and crunchy vegetables like carrots, celery, cucumbers as they act as mild abrasives that make your teeth cleaner and whiter.
- Chewing gums - Use sugar-free chewing gums after meals. They have access to small nook and corners of the mouth. They clean away the food particles, tartar and plaque and give cleaner and thus brighter teeth.
- Avoid coffee, tobacco, smoking, carbonated drinks, red wine, to prevent staining teeth.
- Try using a straw while consuming liquids as it will limit the contact of the drink with the teeth and thereby reduce the staining.
- Lemon juice, vinegar, apple cider & strawberries – lot of people recommend them as a great solution for natural and cheap teeth whitening but I strongly advice you against all these. Why? Because it’s the citric acid content in these foods that acts on the tooth enamel and robs it off the calcium on it. Thus you lose the brown stains, but also healthy tooth enamel which protects from most dental infections and gives them strength. So only if losing teeth earlier than usual in the long run is acceptable should one opt for any of these!
